Golfers Dress Sense Raises Eyebrows

Many people find the dress code surrounding golf strange but all sports have them. This means that it is very important to ensure that you are selecting the best possible apparel when you are trying to decide what to wear. Of course every golf course has its own set of dress guidelines, but knowing what are the standard guidelines can help you have a pleasurable experience. This is an important aspect of golf and cannot be dismissed with many clubs refusing to allow people to play if they are incorrectly dressed. This is not only embarrassing but can be an awkward problem if you are barred from playing simply because there was some miscommunication regarding clothes to be worn.

For men and boys there are several things that are immediately unacceptable on the golf course. The first is the use of shirts with no collar and the next is the use of shirts with no sleeves - neither of these are considered appropriate at any time. The likes of running shoes (usually they have metal spikes) and jogging wear are also not allowed. You should take care to avoid wearing clothing with obnoxious logos or anything offensive on them as well. Additionally wearing jeans or sandals are not allowed, even for women.

The most proper mens attire on the golf course happens to be collared shirts, the right pair of pants or shorts and golf or athletic shoes. If you are wearing golf shoes, ensure that they are soft spikes and are not metal spikes - most courses will not permit metal spikes on the green due to the damage that they can cause. Shirts can be either long sleeve or short sleeve and can also include having a turtleneck or pull over sweater. Socks should reach ankle length without any distasteful logos and in solid color.

For women playing golf, fitting shirts and skirts and even Capris are allowed. Generally, women are barred from wearing pants of any type including jeans shorts. For modestys sake a woman wearing shorts or a skirt should ensure they are of an appropriate length which means not higher than five inches above the knee. However each golf course is guided by its own specific rules and guidelines in the matter. A womans shirt must also have a collar and once again a v-neck style sweater is allowed.

However, a woman can wear a shirt that is completely sleeveless or have short sleeved (providing it has a collar). Other accessories that are allowed are ankle-length socks and athletic or golf shoes. The rules regarding socks for men are the same for women - so nothing garish. Another important to remember is that any accompanying person to the golf course should also follow the same dress rules. You would be wise to check out the rules on dress before you go along to your first round by phoning them or looking for their rules on the club website.

Learning Golf Takes Time

Learning to play golf can be a challenging task. You need ample time to study all the rules of the game before you even pick up your golf club. You need to be aware of some common mistakes that first timers are prone to commit and a trained instructor can prevent you from making those same mistakes. It will be more pleasurable to learn with an instructor around to guide you.

Beginners learning golf tend to lookup when striking the ball. This is a problem because it can result in a stroke being counted even if you did not hit the ball. Always look down after you have hit the ball! Your hips need to be rotated after hitting. Right from the start when you are learning golf, the extended arm position during a swing really helps to improve your swing. After a successful hit, count to five before you raise your eyes upwards.

Another common problem for people learning golf is that once on the green, too many putts are missed. Adopt a putting stance and keep looking at the golf ball. This will prevent you from missing the ball or hitting it in the wrong direction to where you want it to go. Just by looking down when you putt will increase your chances of success.

It is kind of funny to see the ball of those learning golf, going to the sides instead of the middle of the green. This is very simple to remedy if you are patient. You may be using the wrong stance so keep a check on this. You need to ensure that you are taking the time to carefully analyze your stance before each swing so you may need to back up a bit to ensure that you are not hitting the ball from the side of the club. The ball will swing to the side instead of the direction you want it to go. You need to build your strength and make solid swings to throw the ball into the direction yow want.

There is one common mistake those learning golf are prone to make - hooking the ball! The wrong stance can be the culprit so sometimes one needs to correct the way the ball is hit. The other thing is to ensure you are not gripping the golf club too strongly. Keep on practicing and you will soon make the improvement you wish.
